Moving during Corona; is that allowed?

When we got to know corona in 2020, we could never have imagined that it would have such an impact on our lives. Later, with the measures, adjustments and even the lockdown, there was still a lot of uncertainty about what exactly was allowed and what was not. That is often still unclear to many people to this day.

Fortunately, the current situation is different today. What we can tell you is that removals could always continue at the beginning of the corona pandemic and that this is still the case. This is due to the fact that removals are essential for society. That is why removal companies can continue to offer removals. Regardless of corona. However, there are measures and guidelines that must be taken into account and we would like to explain this to you in this article.

Can you move during corona?

As you may have read before, moving is essential for society. You may be thinking, but why? You can also move later, right? Whether you move today or tomorrow? That doesn't matter at all, does it? We can tell you that it doesn't.

NB: do you want to move with corona? If you mean to move during corona time that is not a problem. If you have tested positive or think you have corona you can of course not have a moving company come to your home.

We can give you some examples of why relocations are necessary. Sometimes elderly people can no longer live on their own, because they need care and have to move to a care facility.

Sometimes it also happens that people divorce and leave each other. You can probably imagine that you can no longer live together in a house. Especially when there are children involved and suffer from the divorce. Or imagine that you had sold your house before the corona pandemic and you had planned to move to your new dream house. Then you would actually have to move out of your old house, but then you would not be able to move to your new house. These situations would not have a positive effect on the already messy Dutch housing market.

1. Adhere to the maximum number of people in your home.
   You are not allowed to invite friends or family to help you move without any restrictions. You are allowed to hire a moving company. The company adheres to the corona rules, so that employees handle them properly.
2. Please adhere to the 1.5 metre rule.
   Keep your distance from friends or family who come to help you move, as well as from the professional movers you hire. They do the same with each other. And if you have to lift something heavy together? Do it together with someone from your own household.
3. Follow the directions of the movers.
   Professional movers know the corona rules and know what is possible. Follow their instructions, for example to lift something heavy or awkward. Or to prepare something, so that they can take over afterwards.

A maximum number of persons

At the time, the government thought that a suitable solution would be a maximum number of people who were allowed to come to your home. At that time, you could not ask your neighbors, friends or family for help. Movers were still allowed to come to your home, because they knew what the exact measures were and they made sure that they were followed exactly. For a while, it was even the case that only one person per day from outside your own household was allowed to come. Fortunately, we no longer have to live with these conditions.

1.5-metre distance

This was a rule that applied not only indoors, but really everywhere in the Netherlands. You had to keep a distance of 1.5 meters from each other at all times.

In order for everything to go smoothly, it is always wise to listen carefully to the movers. This was not only the case during corona, but of course it is still the case. They can make a good assessment of specific moving situations due to their years of experience and knowledge. They pay close attention to your belongings, carry out their work and thus maintain peace.

It was and is wisest to hire professional movers through a moving company. A moving company also gives you more clarity, which can be very nice during an already chaotic move. You can choose to outsource only a certain part of the move, such as the transport, but you can also choose to have a moving company take care of your entire move. Make sure you arrange this well in advance. This way, the moving company can plan your move in time. In this way, they prepare your move and you no longer have to worry about the small things.

Corona symptoms among movers

Furthermore, moving companies are still checking for possible symptoms of COVID-19, because safety is still number 1. If employees cough, have respiratory complaints or other symptoms, they must report sick as soon as possible so that they are not scheduled. They must also be tested at the local GGD. Furthermore, the movers must wash their hands regularly during moves and use paper tissues. Furthermore, many movers still want to wear face masks. Of course, this is now a personal choice.

Due to the corona virus, moving companies are required to work with stricter rules not only during the moves. Think of washing hands regularly, not shaking hands and keeping the necessary distance. First of all, always make sure you have a good internet connection. Is this arranged properly? Then the moving company can start compiling the list together with you. This means that you have to walk through the house during the video call and get a good picture of everything. All cabinets must also be opened to determine the volume. Also keep a tape measure with you during the call so that you can easily take the measurements and pass them on. Also try to ensure sufficient lighting so that everything can be seen clearly on screen.

If after calling it appears that the company needs to look a bit more at your living situation, they will make an appointment. One mover will come by so that everything can proceed safely.
