Good preparation is half the battle
The title of this paragraph is a saying that we Dutch people have heard since childhood and this is not without reason. It is really true. Especially with regard to emigrating abroad. You are not only going to travel somewhere, you actually want to live there. In a new home at your chosen destination. This sounds wonderful of course, but it remains a big step.
Information about COVID19 in England
You may have already scoured the internet for information about the British government, corona and travelling to England. You may have even searched for information about international relocations. If you have already done this, this was a wise choice on your part, because there are now extra rules and measures that need to be taken into account not only in England, but all over the world. Unfortunately, it is no longer the case that you can just enter a country. In fact, some countries have an entry ban or you can only travel there if it is really necessary.
Confusion and news updates
Because all countries handle it differently, it can all be very confusing. Many countries also change their rules and measures daily, so it is advisable to really keep a close eye on all the news until the moment of arrival. That way you can hopefully enter the country without any problems.
English COVID-19 figures
The number positive tested people in England last week was 7363. Furthermore, the UK has now fully vaccinated 67.7% of the population and 73.95% have had their first vaccination. Together this is 77 million vaccinations given. This means that the country is in third place worldwide for the most vaccinated people.
The start of the English corona pandemic
The United Kingdom underestimated the situation at the beginning of the corona pandemic. As a result, the measures were implemented very slowly and the consequences were disastrous. In fact, it went like in the rest of the world, because let's be honest, who expected all this? On March 19, 2020, the United Kingdom announced its first lockdown. The country also waited a very long time for this and actually wanted to avoid it. In total, the country has 'only' had 3 lockdowns. The end of the measures was already announced on July 19, 2021, despite the rising infection figures.
Current situation
In England, you can actually still notice very little of the coronavirus compared to other countries. The country has also not been in lockdown since July 2021. However, you are still obliged to adhere to minor measures:
- It is mandatory to wear a face mask in public areas
- People should still work from home as much as possible
- If you have symptoms, you are required to take a test and if you test positive, you must of course go into quarantine.
Traveling to England
As we discussed earlier, you can no longer just travel into a country. Not even the countries within the European Union. The United Kingdom has 2 lists that they use. The red list and the rest of the world. So the red list contains countries that are severely affected and are not considered safe.
Testing, testing, testing
When you travel to the United Kingdom you must Passenger Locator Form (PLF) fill in. You must also have a PCR or antigen rapid test. This test must have been taken max. 48 hours in advance. You must also book a PCR test in advance for your second day after arrival, because you are then obliged to test yourself again. Do you test positive for this test? Then you are obliged to go into quarantine.
Unvaccinated
For travelers who are not (fully) vaccinated, the same rules apply, but there are also a number of additional rules. They must self-isolate for 10 days at the address they provided on the PLF form. They must also book a PCR test not only for day 2, but also for day 8.
International QR Codes
In the United Kingdom you can also use the CoronaCheck app. This will give you the EU Digital Covid CertificateYou need this app if you are fully vaccinated, if you have just had your first dose, if you have proof of recovery or proof of a negative test.
You don't just want to travel to England, you really want to move and emigrate. Therefore, always check the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for up-to-date information, because they update it regularly.
Moving companies
For an international move, it is of course very important that you hire a moving company that has a lot of experience with moving abroad. Such a moving company knows exactly what needs to be done to make the move go smoothly. Furthermore, they are also well informed about the new rules and measures of the Dutch government regarding moving.
Moving costs
The costs for hiring professional movers vary greatly. This is due to various factors. Certified movers are of course a bit more expensive than budget-proof movers. Both are professional, but with a certified mover you do get guarantees and insurance.
Your personal choices also play a major role in calculating the moving costs. You can indicate exactly what you want, but this will have some influence on the price. For example, do you want help packing things in your old house? Do you want to book an unpacking service for the new house?
Request free quotes
It is best to request moving quotes from different moving companies. However, you should pay attention to whether it is free and that you are not suddenly stuck with something.
At Moova we have come up with a solution for this. You can easily request quotes from various moving companies on our site within 2 minutes. This way you will receive the quotes as quickly as possible on your e-mail address and you can take your time to see which one you prefer.
Hiring movers
The staff also knows the rules regarding corona well. For example, the mover knows that there must be a distance of 1.5 meters between everyone. This means that there must be space during the move to be able to keep sufficient distance. The mover knows exactly what needs to be done to prevent the spread of the virus so that the move can be done safely. Moving during COVID19 is different than before, but that does not mean that your moving day cannot go smoothly.
Finally
As you have read, there is still a lot to arrange for your move to England. You also now know that there are all kinds of obligations and rules that you have to adhere to. In this article we have tried to help you with this as much as possible. Unfortunately, it is true that the measures can change every day, so try to keep an eye on this yourself as well as possible.
