Moving to France during Corona

You want to move to beautiful France, but still corona is a concern that blocks your plans. Do you actually still want to move to France? How is the French government dealing with corona and what is the situation like in France today? These are of course logical questions and with this article we would like to help you. We can tell you that you actually have no reason to worry if you want emigrate to France. See below why.

Good preparation

A good preparation is half the battle. This is a saying we have heard since we were little and it is actually true. Especially for something as important as international moves. You are not only going to travel in France, you are going to live in France. Even though this sounds wonderful, it is still a big step, because you are moving abroad.

Information

You may have already searched the internet for information about the French government or how to travel to France or maybe even about international removals in general. This is a very good first step, because there are now extra rules and measures all over the world that you need to take into account when traveling to a country. Because each country handles it differently and this can be very confusing, we want to help you as best we can. For example, the United Kingdom will handle things differently than the Dutch government. Most countries have measures that change daily and therefore it is advisable to keep a close eye on everything until the moment of arrival so that you can enter the country without problems.

What we can give you as a golden tip is to look carefully at the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the situation in France. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs updates their information regularly.

French COVID-19 figures

According to our latest update, the average of the number of people who tested positive there have been 6,193 infections in the past week. The situation at the moment is therefore much more favourable than a few months ago. This is due to the high vaccination rate and the extra measures that France has taken in an attempt to contain the virus.

In France, 79,60% received their first dose of the vaccination and 75,90% are already fully vaccinated because they have had their second dose. The French government is also quick with the booster shot, because 46,30% of the inhabitants have already had a booster shot.

The start of the corona pandemic in France

In January 2020, the first infection of the virus was detected in France. After that, the numbers went up rapidly, just like elsewhere in the world. Intervention was too late and the hospitals became overloaded. It was in March 2020 that the French government announced its first lockdown. They closed the border and the French were only allowed to go out on the street for an urgent reason and with a special document. If you did go out without this document? Then you could expect a high fine. The French police had to enforce this and checked everyone on the street. Public transport was also restricted.

Current situation

Fortunately, things are different today and the figures are a bit better, as you can see from the current information. France is of course no longer in lockdown. This is due to the special measures that we will discuss with you later in this article. In France, you are obliged to adhere to a number of rules and measures if you want to do things.

COVID-19 measures France

There are certain rules that you have to adhere to in France. For example, in France you have to wear a face mask in all public spaces. In the open air this is no longer necessary. However, we have to say that in the busy centres of the larger cities, for example in Paris, it is often recommended to wear a face mask. You will see that the French generally prefer to wear a face mask, so this is not a big problem for them. The 1.5 metre distance measure also still applies.

Pass sanitary facilities

In France, it is also the case that everyone aged 12 and over must be able to show a passe sanitaire, or a corona certificate, when they enter places where there will be more than 50 people. Think of events, for example. It is also the case that you can only gain access to the catering industry, shopping centres, hospitals etc. upon presentation of the passe sanitaire.

Let's test

Are you going to travel to France soon? Then you can get tested for COVID-19 in France, but this is against payment. In fact, since October 2021, the French also have to pay for a test unless it is done on a doctor's prescription.

Traveling to France

When you travel to France, there are certain entry requirements that you must adhere to. You must be in possession of your EU Digital Covid Certificate (DCC), it does not matter whether you travel by plane, train or car.

Your DCC contains your vaccination certificate. This certificate states that you must have had your last vaccination at least 7 days ago. If you have had the Janssen vaccine, this must have been at least 28 days ago before you are allowed to enter France. If you have had corona before and therefore only received one vaccination, you must also have had that vaccination at least 7 days earlier. You may also show proof of recovery. However, your proof of recovery must show that you tested positive at least 15 days ago or a maximum of 180 days ago.

If you are not vaccinated and do not want to be, you will need a negative test to enter France. This must be a PCR test taken 72 hours in advance or an antigen rapid test taken 48 hours in advance. Fortunately, we Dutch do not have to quarantine upon arrival in France.

International QR Codes

You will eventually have to travel to France as well and will therefore need your international QR code in the CoronaCheck app. As you may have read earlier, you need this to enter France. You will need this if you are fully vaccinated, if you have only just received your first vaccination, if you have proof of recovery or proof of a negative test.

CoronaCheck app and certificates

As you may have read earlier, don't forget to check your CoronaCheck app EU Digital Covid Certificate to create. This way everything will be uploaded into your app.

International removals

Of course, you don’t just want to travel to France, you really want to move to France. This means that you need to prepare well, because you have an international move planned! For the move of your belongings, it is best to hire a moving company that specializes in international moves. These companies also employ movers who have the necessary experience with foreign countries. They know exactly what to do so that your belongings do not get damaged on the way. These movers can therefore ensure that your belongings are delivered neatly to their destination in your new place of residence and new home in France.

The average costs of moving abroad

The average costs for a move are difficult to estimate. A moving company needs more information for this. Some examples of this are, for example, how big your belongings are, the accessibility and size of your home. The more belongings, the more movers and moving boxes are of course needed to make the move go smoothly. Furthermore, the price also depends on your personal wishes. For example, do you want extra services? Think of a packing/unpacking service. Do you perhaps need an extra mover, because you prefer this yourself?

Request free quotes

As you can see, there are many factors that influence the price. It is therefore best to request quotes from different moving companies to get an idea of the price and possibilities. Read the small print carefully, because sometimes you can be stuck with an agreement that you are not waiting for with one click.

Receive no-obligation quotes

We understand that you don't have time to contact different moving companies, because you are far too busy emigrating! At Moova, we have come up with a solution for this. You can request free and completely non-binding quotes from us. You can easily do this online. After your request, you will receive quotes the next day via e-mail from the different moving companies and you can easily make a choice between the companies. This way, you know exactly what to expect.

Finally

As you may have read, the French government has taken certain measures. We have tried to provide you with as much up-to-date information as possible in this article and to give you some tips. The rules can change daily, which can be very confusing for foreigners. You will see that the French generally all wear a face mask, so wearing a face mask is the best thing you can do. If you do this in all areas, you no longer have to doubt or think about how it was and you are always fine.
